Basically, there's a group of 20 or so people - a few of whom are designated as 'Traitors'. The rest of them are known as the Faithful.

Every episode, three things happen:

- A challenge to build up prize money. All the contestants work together in this (whether they're Faithful or Traitors);
- The Traitors secretly 'murder' one of the Faithful (i.e. eliminate them from the game);
- The players get together and vote on who they think is a Traitor. Whoever gets the most votes is 'banished'.

The goal of the Faithful is to try and banish all the Traitors before they all get murdered. The goal of the Traitors is to escape detection .
